Geothermal economy puts Nevada County in the black
In Nevada, one county can thank the regions geothermal activity for filling its tax coffers. Revenue increased by more than $45 million (256%) in Churchill County during the past year. Geothermal power plants from Enel Energy in Salt Wells and Stillwater and exploration drilling from Vulcan Power were prime contributors. The plants, exploration and drilling accounted for about 20% of the county’s revenue in 2009. Further, the County says it currently generates more power than it can export.
