Another college looking below ground for heating and cooling
In Wisconsin, at the Clairemont campus of Chippewa Valley Technical College, six 185-foot deep holes have been drilled for two geothermal systems. Both will be teaching tools to help with two classes on renewable heating and cooling technologies. However, one will help heat and cool the lab where students will be taught the technology, and [...]
New Kenyon College building to use geothermal
In Ohio, a new art building being built at Kenyon College will use 20 geothermal wells for heating and cooling. The wells will be drilled to 400 feet and excavation for the building is nearly complete. The college is also considering geothermal for a new dorm, which is still in the planning stages.

EU smart energy plan ignores geothermal
In Brussels, a draft European Union document is as notable for what it lacks as well as for what it holds. The plan provides for Europe to select 30 cities to pioneer smart electricity grids and space-proven insulation while it seeks to stay abreast of research in the U.S. and elsewhere. However, in the plan, [...]
Scientists come to defense of geothermal after quakes
In Germany, while a government panel investigates whether or not a geothermal plant was responsible for triggering a magnitude-2.7 earthquake in August, some scientists are mounting a defense of the technology. New Scientist quoted Roy Baria, a geophysicist on the panel reviewing the quake and geothermal energy company EGS Energy employee, as saying that engineers [...]
