Report after report has Kenya charging forward with alternative energy plans

In Kenya, the country says it will, with the support of donors, set up a $2 billion revolving fund to lend those investing in geothermal, solar and wind electricity production projects. The Ministry of Finance said World Bank, French Development Agency, KfW of German and African Development Bank had agreed to help the government set up the fund. Geothermal is seen as an answer to Kenya’s reliance on hydroelectric power, which provides some 90% of its electricity requirements. Drought has slashed capacity at Kenya’s main dams and the country will need over $1 billion in the next three years to tap its geothermal power potential. And finally, speaking at the Energy and Competitive Electricity Conference in Nairobi, energy minister Kiraitu Murungi has vowed an end to future power rationing in the country, based on its commitments to solar, wind and geothermal power generation.
