Nevada could take geothermal energy production lead

In Nevada, a new report from the Geothermal Energy Association says that the state could soon challenge California as the production leader in geothermal energy. While it currently has only 448 MW of production compared to California’s 2,605 MW, some 1,200 MW are in the final stages of development. Only 374 MW are in the final stages in California. Nevada is projected to add as much as 3,743 MW over the next ten years, compared to 2,436 in California, and the state is getting more than $73.6 million in Energy Department funding. That is nearly double the $47.3 million slated to go to California projects.
