New geothermal bidding round set

In the Philippines, the Department of Energy is looking to dole out another 10 geothermal contracts under the Philippine Energy Contracting Round (PECR). Frontier or undeveloped areas are included. Energy assistant secretary Mario Marasigan said that the department is scheduling the auction within the quarter, but the award of contracts will depend on the pace of the review of the submitted work programs. DoE policy for geothermal frontier areas allow investors to submit unsolicited proposals with the intention of drumming up interest for what are largely-untapped and untested prospects. Exploratory work is needed as there is very limited information as to their potential yield.
