$1.3 billion contract signals start of 280 MW Kenya plant

In Kenya, under the terms of a $1.3 billion contract signed with Kenya Electricity Generating Co., Sinclair Knight Merz Pty Ltd. will serve as consultants for the construction of a 280 MW geothermal power plant. Sinclair Knight Merz will provide technical design and preparation of the tender documents, prequalification of potential bidders, tender evaluation and contract negotiations, supervision of construction contracts, and support during the warranty period. The project will be built in Olkaria and work on the three-year project will begin this month. The Olkaria region is believed to have a geothermal potential estimated at 3,000 MW. KenGen currently produces 115 megawatts of electricity from geothermal sources.
