GT plant host city defies NGCP demand to shed power load
In the Philippines, geothermal plants continue to operate as a dry spell has diminished the capability of regional hydropower plants to produce power. The lack of water resulted in the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to implement a load curtailment scheme in mid-February. However, North Cotabato is the home of the Mt. Apo Geothermal power plant and the Cotabato Electric Cooperative (Cotelco) has decided to defy the scheme. Rodolfo Cabiles Jr., a Cotelco board member, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer they passed a resolution directing the Cotelco management not to shut off its substations despite the NGCP order for the implementation of a 12-hour daily brownout.
