Swan Hills well heat recovery project approved for grant

In British Columbia, a $2.6 million grant has been approved by the Alberta Energy Research Institute for the Swan Hills oil and gas production field that will use hot waste water that is currently pumped back into the ground to generate electricity to be used as an alternative or supplementary source of power. The grant will go to Free Energy International Inc. subsidiary Free Energy Power Corp. in association with Borealis GeoPower Inc. who will operate the project using heat exchange technology. The field produces high volumes of 163 to 170 degrees F water from about 9,000 feet along with the hydrocarbons. The funding is subject to a number of conditions including a matching on a dollar for dollar basis of eligible expenditures.
