Scientists look to re-open geothermal exploration in San Francisco volcanic field

In Arizona, the U.S. Geological Survey is republishing a study highlighting possible geothermal energy about 15 miles northeast of Flagstaff with the intent of attracting federal stimulus money or developers to drill test holes. The agency hopes believes there could be 255-300 degree hot spots 10,000 feet below the San Francisco volcanic field. The area hosts as many as 800 extinct volcanoes stretching from Bill Williams Mountain to Sunset Crater. The original report was authored by three scientists formerly associated with Northern Arizona University and calls for a test drill for exploration.
