Jetport ground source project underway
In Maine, installation of a geothermal heating a cooling system has begun at the Portland International Jetport, funded by a $2.5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The project is scheduled to be done in October but not to be operational until July 2011. The installation will use of a total of 120, 500 feet deep wells, and some 60,000-feet of ground loop coil. The airport has estimated that its oil consumption will be reduced by more than 100,000 gallons per year at a general energy cost reduction of 80%, paying for itself in three years.
