Company studying GT potential in the Raton Basin
In Colorado, Pioneer Natural Resources is exploring the potential of harvesting geothermal power in the Raton Basin. The company says that research is currently in a preliminary phase. They are investigating just how hot the basin is and how deep they would have to drill to access adequate heat. The basin is a recognized hot at shallow depths. Pioneer has the support of the Governor’s Energy Office as well as the Colorado Geological Survey. Pioneer Geoscience Advisor Hal Macartney said “In an effort to further enhance our base knowledge and help assess the Raton Basin potential, we are also working with the Colorado School of Mines and Southern Methodist University; each school has experts who can add to the evaluation effort.”
