Resort looking into electricity production from its well
In Nevada, now that the Peppermill Resort Casino has its geothermal heating well online, the company now wants to generate up to a third of the resort’s power needs with the resource. Resort officials were initially surprised when a shallow existing well managed to provide about 30% percent of its heating needs. A 4,400 feet well was drilled that eventually returned 175-degree water and used in the new heat system. It was designed with 20 to 30% additional capacity as well, and Peppermill engineers now are contemplating power generation. The resort uses nine to 10 MW per year and it is believed that the well could produce three to four MW.
