State accustomed to ground source heating and cooling
In Maryland, an item about some new energy-saving features in a local (Wicomico County) high school, including a new ground source heating and cooling system, turned up an interesting tid bit. Wicomico schools already have a high number of geothermal installations. North Salisbury Elementary, Westside Primary and Intermediate and Prince Street Elementary all have some degree of geothermal heating and cooling. Why? A school official said that though other systems require extensive analysis and cost comparison, geothermal systems are automatically approved by the state because of their known efficiency. So, while the vast majority of the population and lawmakers by extension remain ignorant of geothermal’s potential, we have to give cudos to officials in Maryland who are well up on the technology.
