Green Machine power output range increased

In Nevada, ElectraTherm said it has expanded the range of power output of its Series 4000 Green Machine generators by 15kW. The equipment now offers between 30-65kW of fuel-free, emission-free power from waste heat. The increased output is the result of more than a year of internal product development and testing while monitoring existing fleet performance and operability. The patented technology captures low-grade waste heat using the Organic Rankine Cycle to generate energy.

CO workshop will look at drilling and funding for test hole

In Colorado, the Geothermal Working Group has issued an invitation to attend an afternoon workshop on “The Path to Colorado’s First Geothermal Power Test Hole” on June 23 in Golden. The workshop will look at the factors involved with exploratory drilling as well as financing mechanisms. Presentations will cover the best locations for test holes, deep geothermal drilling equipment and techniques, what data is needed, drilling costs and timelines, and funding options.

GEA sets first ever geothermal summit

In Washington D.C., the Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) has announced the first ever National Geothermal Summit. The event will be held Tuesday, August 16th and Wednesday, August 17th, 2011 at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno, NV. The summit is for GEA members, companies, and individuals in the geothermal industry with industry experts sharing real life approaches to getting geothermal projects in the ground and online. Topics for the Summit include Outlooks for Washington and the Western States, Building New Transmission Projects in the Western States, New Renewable Energy Policy Developments in California, and Moving Geothermal Forward on Public Lands.

7th international geothermal conference held

In Germany, the International Geothermal Conference (IGC) has taken place for the 7th time at Freiburg from May 10th through the 12th. The event hosted more than 250 participants at IGC 2011 from 17 different countries and ended with field trips to projects in Riehen and Soultz-sous-forêt. Presentations from IGC 2011 are ready to download. Participants have free access with user names and passwords previously sent. Others may order the conference documents.

Bosch launches new geothermal product line

In Florida, Bosch Thermotechnology North America has announced a series of enhancements to its product portfolio and HVAC professional support network for its geothermal heating and cooling systems in the U.S. Bosch will also rebrand its FHP residential line of geothermal heat pumps to the Bosch brand name. The new line of Energy Star-certified geothermal heat pumps offer best-in-class efficiency and is backed by a 10-year parts and labor warranty. The Bosch line is offered in three product families, offering consumers and HVAC professionals a broad range of water-to-water and water-to-air comfort solutions for any size residential heating and cooling need.

LSB reports 2011 first quarter

In Oklahoma, geothermal and water source heat pump manufacturer LSB Industries, Inc. reported record first quarter results. The company said net sales rose 36% to $177.5 million and that net income rose from $1.7 million to $34 million. The net sales increase was the result of a $10.0 million or 19% increase in climate control business net sales and a $36.6 million or 49% increase in the net sales in the chemical business.

Fed facilities project planning DOE free webcast May 5

In Washington D.C., the U.S Department of Energy Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) will present a free, 90-minute webcast on Renewable Energy on Thursday, May 5. Andy Walker, Principle Engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and Anne Crawley, Team Lead of FEMP’s Renewable Energy Technology program, will walk through requirements and best practices for planning renewable energy projects at federal facilities. Specifically, they will discuss federal mandates, recent trends, and developments related to renewable energy; screening tools, services, and performance and cost calculators available for project planning; site evaluations for renewable energy systems; integration of renewable technology into existing systems and new construction; and options for purchasing Renewable Energy Credits.

GeoPower Turkey added to TIREC 2011

In Turkey, GreenPower Conferences will host the 3rd annual Turkish International Renewable Energy Congress (TIREC), to be held in September in Istanbul. New in 2011 is the addition of GeoPower Turkey, which will provide a crucial forum for debate as the country gears up its geothermal efforts. The GeoPower conference will consist of 2 days of top-level discussion on the economics, policy, regulation and technology. Turkey hopes to generate 1,000 MW from geothermal energy by 2020.

Bosch chooses agency to promote U.S. in-home geothermal

In Georgia, Atlanta-based Titan Agency said it had been selected by Bosch Thermotechnology Corp. North America to lead its \marketing efforts as part of a multi-year plan to increase sustainable energy use in the U.S. residential marketplace. Bosch Thermotechnology manufactures geothermal heat pump climate comfort systems for residential and commercial applications, condensing tankless and point-of-use water heaters, solar thermal water heating systems and Buderus floor-standing and wall-hung boilers.
